MITHRA International Foundation Third Annual Fundraiser

On October 5, 2013, Mithra International Foundation held its Third Annual Fundraiser To Benefit Underprivileged Bulgarian Children With Talents In The Arts.

In the inviting atmosphere of the Steinway Piano Gallery of Detroit Mithra’s event gathered people from four continents. Ms. Kyoko Kashiwagi (violin) and Ms. Angelina Pashmakova (piano) captivated the audience with their masterly performance of music by Mozart, Chopin, Pancho Vladigerov and Bartok. The high point of the concert was the premiere of the Sonata for Piano # 6 by Velislav Zaimov. The Bulgarian composer created the Sonata for Ms. Pashmakova in 2012.

After the concert, Mithra’s guests enjoyed an after-glow reception surrounded by the art works of the participants in Mithra’s Art Workshop for Underprivileged Bulgarian Children with Talents in the Fine Arts. More than twenty works in different media were offered for sale in order to raise money for Mithra’s next project in Bulgaria. The greeting cards made by the children attracted the most interest. For their creation, the young artists used materials ranging from fabrics to wood.

The live auction at the end of the fundraiser brought a lot of enthusiasm and fun. Donations from a number of businesses helped in Mithra’s efforts to raise funds to support its mission: Empowerment through Education, Art and Culture. All proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit underprivileged Bulgarian children with talents in the arts.

Mithra International Foundation would like to express its profound gratitude to Ms. Kyoko Kashiwagi and Ms. Angelina Pashmakova for donating their talent, time and hard work to Mithra’s cause. Angelina and Kyoko, your mesmerized us with your brilliant performance!

Mithra would like to thank Mr. Tim Hoy of the Steinway Piano Gallery of Detroit for providing the wonderful venue for the fundraiser free of charge.

Mithra is grateful to all its guests and supporters who made the Third Annual Fundraiser a very special event.

     THANK YOU ALL!

The History of Bulgarian Third Tsardom

Told By Its Orders and Medals

webassets/DecorationsIIIBGKingdomPoster.jpg
On March 10, 2013, Dr. Petrov delivered a lecture on Bulgarian orders and decorations from the Third Bulgarian Tsardom (1878 – 1946), a period which encompasses the restoration of the independence of the Bulgarian state from the Ottoman Empire to the establishment of the Republic of Bulgaria.
During this period six orders were established by the Bulgarian sovereigns Prince Alexander Battenberg, Prince/Tsar (after 1908) Ferdinand I, and Tsar Boris III. The first order “For Bravery” was established in 1879, the last and most prestigious one “SS. Cyril and Methodius” - in 1909. The latter civil order has been the highest award in Bulgaria. Since Bulgaria was involved in numerous military operations in those years four of the orders are military. Despite that, civil service was recognized by Bulgarian rulers by ranking the order “For Civil Merit” above the order “For Military Merit” in value.

Rare and aesthetically very appealing decorations, sometimes referred to as “orders”, include “For Service to Humanity”, “Ascension of Ferdinand I to the Throne”, “10-years Service”- and “20-years Service”-crosses as well several “Red Cross” decorations. It is notable that the majority of Bulgarian orders and medals have distinct versions for dames identifiable by characteristic “bow tie” ribbons.

MITHRA International would like to express its sincere gratitude to all its friends and supporters who joined us for an evening of beauty and art.

On May 5, 2012, MITHRA International Foundation held its Annual Fundraiser in Metro Detroit in the inviting atmosphere of the Birmingham Unitarian Church. The event combined the talents of Bulgarian artist Ivo Kirkov (IvoK) and three beloved musicians from Metro Detroit: Susan Joul (cell), Kyoko Kashiwagi (violin) and Angelina Pashmakova (piano).

The  fundraiser opened with an exhibition and a silent auction of Bulgarian artist IvoK. His first show in the United States entitled "Like Children Do" consists of twelve artist proofs completed in mixed media technique. It is part of the artist's international project dedicated to helping talented underprivileged children. Looking at the artworks, one’s imagination follows the artist’s plume enriched by a deep color palette, or a fling of forms and patterns, to uncover images of beauty, child’s play, or … Dreamland, hidden in one’s subconscious.
